Activities

Come, stay and play. Golden Bay has so much to offer and we’re in the middle of it!

If you like to explore and head to where the crowds aren’t then Golden Bay sounds like the place for you! With so much to do nearby you’ll just wish you stayed longer (if you don’t believe us just have a read of our reviews). We’ve the Abel Tasman National Park on one side of us and the Kahurangi National Park on the other so you’ll be spoilt for choice of which walk to do first! Here’s a video of some of the highlights.

When leaving the park you can turn left or right…

Turning left: We’re closest to the northern end of the Abel Tasman National Park which is less-visited and more pristine than the rest of the park and highlights could be a half day kayak trip with the awesome Golden Bay Kayaks team, a short walk to Wainui Falls or a full day’s hike following the northern loop of Gibb’s Hill.

Turning right: Within 5 minutes you’ve the gem of the Grove Scenic Reserve for a short 30 minute walk or for those more energetic, Pohara’s very own beach front Golf course. A bit further afield you can catch some salmon for lunch at Anotoki Salmon, take a look at the 3rd clearest spring ON EARTH at Te Waikoropupu Springs, or take a scenic flight over 2 National Parks providing you with scenery that will be forever embedded in your brain! For those wanting to go even further (approx 1 hour’s drive from us) you can take a walk on Farewell Spit, get to know the seals on the gorgeously wild Wharariki Beach, or explore the lesser known Kahurangi National Park which has multiple options of short hikes (you may even find some gold!).

Even better… You may be pleased to hear that Golden Bay is un-crowded, laid back, friendly and uniquely beautiful in many different ways so you can just put your feet up, do nothing, and relax! Did we mention we’re on a beautiful family friendly beach? Happy days!
